Tête-à-Tête Café @ Biopolis

6 February 2015

G told us about this latest café that opened in the Biopolis area; it is located at Nucleos North Tower, a stone’s throw from Curbside Café & Wine Bar. Looking at the cafe’s name, this place seems to be French inspired, but my dining companions and I had one question on our minds: “How do we actually pronounce the name of this place?” We asked the staff and he said it should be “tatt-a-tatt”, which means chit chat in French. The black-and-white awning is used to complete the Parisian café feel, I believe.

Since we already had our lunch, we decided to share a few desserts. By the way, Tête-à- Tête also serves savoury items such as Shepherd’s Pie (S$16.90), which looks amazing in picture, Quiches (S$14.90) and Sandwiches (14.90). All coffees are priced the same, for now, at S$4.20 per cup.

Tete A Tete Cafe Cakes

The staff recommended that we get Passion Mango (S$6.90), Lemon Meringue Tart (S$6.90), Chocolate Tower (S$7.90) and Carrot Cake (S$6.90). They arrived on a nicely-decorated plate, with blueberries and jam (strawberry, I presume) – nice touch!

Tête-à- Tête Café Passion Mango

My personal favourite is the Passion Mango, although I could only taste the passion fruit; it was the right balance of tartness and sweetness for me. And the texture was more firm, than creamy. I love passion fruit, so this naturally was a winner for me.

Most of my colleagues enjoyed the Lemon Meringue Tart as the lemon curd was smooth and sufficiently tart. The pastry base was too soft, though; it crumbled quite a bit that I had difficulty scooping up with the fork. The meringue was too sweet too. I guess the chef was feeling pretty generous with the sugar.

Tête-à- Tête Café Carrot Cake

Although the colour was on a lighter side, the carrot cake turned out better than expected. It was a lot fluffier than carrot cakes from other shops such as Cedele. They were pretty generous with the ingredients as well: raisins, walnuts, and we could actually see the shredded carrots! Taste wise, it was not too sweet, so that’s a plus for me.

Tête-à- Tête Café Chocolate Tower

The most expensive Chocolate Tower was like a mini chocolate layer cake with chocolate frosting. Two words to describe it – very chocolatey! If you are looking for something sweet, you should definitely get this.

Tête-à- Tête Café biopolis

Tête-à- Tête Café seems like a nice place for the “tai-tais” to sip their afternoon tea and have a slice of cake. But I wonder how suitable it is to the crowd around Biopolis. The offerings are not extremely value-for-money as well. They should probably work on offering more food items to boost the sales; I am not sure if cakes, quiches, sandwiches and pies can sustain the business in the long run.

P.S. They probably started business not too long ago, so do expect tardy service.
